Team Melia had 2 fencers entered in this year's Cadet Championships, Olivia Keys in the Foil and Elisabeth Powell in the Epee. Always a tough event to compete at against the best in UK and with a 20% cut after the poules this year to add to the elite nature of the event.
Elisabeth won every fight in convincing style to reach the final against a fellow West Midlands fencer and regular sparring partner Ellie Cormack from Kenilworth Swords. Elisabeth's training and hard work in the last month paid off as she won the final 15 - 5 demonstrating great tactical prowess and technical ability to become the British U17 Women's Epee Champion of 2011.
A fantastic result for Elisabeth to add to her BYC U14 title and boost her confidence for the rest of this season. Olivia finished 11th in the foil having fenced really well in her poule but being unlucky in her Last 16 direct elimination fight against a tough opponent. |
